What happens at a check-up
A check-up is a gentle, easy process. We look at your teeth and gums, talk through anything you've noticed and guide you through what we see. It's a supportive way to stay on top of your oral health.
Caitlin
Dr Caitlin Oakley is known for her warm, gentle approach. She explains things as she goes, checks in often and helps patients feel comfortable — especially those who may have felt nervous in the past.
How often
Most people benefit from a check-up and clean every six months, though some may need visits a little more or less often. We'll help you find a rhythm that suits your mouth and your lifestyle.
Professional cleaning
By scheduling regular oral health examinations, the Fresh Dentistry team can plan and implement effective treatments as well as identify issues while they are still in their early stages. Early detection can remove the need for more extensive treatment later on.
Root planing and scaling involves removing plaque build-up that has become calcified — known as calculus, and sometimes referred to as tartar.
Gum disease is the main cause of tooth loss in adults, and develops when calculus is not removed from under the gum line.
Calculus builds up in the mouth causing red, swollen and bleeding gums. Over time the gums move away from the teeth, which can cause sensitivity to heat and cold and eventually lead to tooth loss.

Gap
Depending on your health fund, there may be a gap payment. We'll always explain costs clearly so you know exactly what to expect.
