What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a common and affordable procedure to lighten the appearance of teeth. When performed professionally, this procedure is very safe and in most cases, extremely effective at achieving the desired shade. The procedure involves applying a whitening agent to the teeth and allowing it to soak through the outer enamel layer and into the softer inner layer of the tooth. This ensures that the teeth are whitened from the inside out, rather than just surface level.

What causes discolouration?

There are many factors that may have caused tooth discolouration. Most commonly, consumption of foods and drinks will cause discolouration. Tea, coffee, red wine and soft drinks are well known to cause discolouration or “yellowing”. Other causes include diseases or conditions, smoking, and exposure to antibiotics when teeth are forming. Fresh Dentistry is equipped to assess any form of discolouration and will work with you to help achieve your desired result.

Why choose Fresh Dentistry?

There are many over-the-counter teeth whitening products that are considered unsafe and damaging. Fresh Dentistry provides professional dentist-administered teeth whitening, either in-clinic or take-home. As professional dentists, we have the ability to administer stronger and more effective treatments, due to access to stronger whitening agents. This means our teeth whitening procedure provides quicker and longer lasting results. Our fast and efficient ZOOM whitening system can deliver up to 6 shades of brightness in a single sitting that takes approximately 90 minutes.

What is the process?

Firstly, our experienced team will conduct a thorough oral examination to determine the most suitable treatment option. We will also discuss with you your preferences and treatment goals, to ensure you are satisfied with your treatment plan. For those who have limited time or are unable to administer the treatment at home, in-clinic whitening is often the preferred option. However, we often recommend undertaking both in-house and at-home treatment, to ensure your results are maintained.

Our ZOOM whitening system ensures that the in-clinic treatment is as quick and easy as possible, usually taking around 90 minutes in total.

At-home whitening involves using custom-made trays to apply the whitening agent to the teeth. Depending on the level of discolouration and the desired results, this usually takes 7-14 days to complete. The at-home system is also useful for occasional touch ups before big events, or as required.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Teeth whitening is not recommended for existing crowns, veneers or fillings. Speak to our experienced dental team about alternative options.
